Mental Health and Addictions System Planning: Estimating Need Across the Continuum of Care

In order to apply resources optimally to the early intervention and treatment of mental disorders and substance use problems in British Columbia, it is important to develop a comprehensive estimate of need amongst the population. This project will replicate and extend an approach recently applied in Australia by Professor Gavin Andrews and his collaborators at the University of New South Wales. The approach will develop clinical pathways and then apply various population-based data sources, including epidemiological estimates, service utilization data and regarding projections of population growth to model potential changes in resource allocations, likely outcomes and costs.
